How much does it cost?
We currently offer two types of subscriptions;
For £ 9.99 per month, you will receive the newest title as soon as it’s published.
You can also sign up for a one-off 6-month (£ 54) pre-paid subscription.
Subscribers will receive free shipping to the UK.
There will be an additional fee to cover postage & packing outside of the UK of £7.50 per month, for an annual subscription this will amount to £90 which will be charged at the time of ordering.
How does payment work?
For monthly subscriptions, payment is taken at the time of your first order, you will then receive that month’s title. For the months that follow, your chosen payment method will be charged before delivery, this will be around the 10th of each month. We will aim to dispatch your order by the date of publication, usually the 13th.
Please note, if you are subscribing between the 9th and last day of the month, you will be charged at the time of placing the order and receive that month’s title, the next payment will then be taken on the 10th of the following month, unless you pause or cancel your subscription.
If you are subscribing between the 1st and the 10th of the month, payment will be taken at the time you place the order, and your order will be despatched on or around the 13th. You will be charged again on the 10th of the following month, unless you pause or cancel your subscription.
You can pause, cancel or redirect your delivery any time.
For our pre-paid 6-month subscription, we will take the full payment on the day you purchase. Please note, that this is a one-off subscription that will not automatically renew. If you wish to continue after 6 months, you will need to re-subscribe.
When will I receive my book?
Your book will be dispatched on or around the 13th of each month, please find delivery timescales here.
Can I pick the titles?
To ensure you do not receive any duplicates you will always be sent the most recently published British Library Tales of the Weird. Occasionally 2 titles are published in a month, and no titles published in a month soon after. In this scenario, one title will be sent out in the month of publication, and the other will be sent out in a month with no title published – it will not be possible for subscribers to choose which order these are sent in. For example, if two titles are published in September and none in December, one title will be sent out in September and the other will be sent in December.
Can I cancel?
Yes, you may cancel. You can do this through your subscription dashboard or by contacting shop@bl.uk by the 6th of the month to ensure that your order has not been processed and dispatched.
Please note you will only be refunded for unused benefits, for example, if you have a 6-month subscription you will only receive a refund of £9 per month (plus postage if applicable) remaining on your subscription.
Can I return the book?
You can return products to us. Please see our returns policy here. In the unlikely event that you receive a damaged or faulty book, please contact us immediately at shop@bl.uk and we can arrange a replacement, or you can return it as per our policy and a refund of the monthly equivalent will be processed.
Can I buy it as a gift?
Yes, you can buy this as a gift, just use the recipient’s delivery address at the checkout and mark the order as a gift.
Can I delay the start date?
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to delay the start of the subscription.
Can I pause my subscription?
If you are signed up for a monthly subscription you can pause your orders. You can do this through your subscription management screen (a link will be e-mailed to you) or you can contact us on shop@bl.uk.
What happens if I change my address?
No problem at all, you can do this through your subscription management screen (a link will be e-mailed to you) or you can contact us on shop@bl.uk.
I did not receive the book I expected.
Whilst we try our best to provide the books as advertised there may on occasion be unforeseen delays in the printing or delivery of the book. We will notify you of any changes in advance.
Why is my order delayed?
Should there be unforeseen delays in the printing or delivery of a book we will notify you with as much notice as possible. Should a book be delayed more than a week we will send an alternative title. Either way, we will let you know in advance of any delays.
How can I find out about upcoming titles?
We will keep our product page updated and let you know what titles are due to come over the coming months. We try our best to provide the titles as advertised, however there may on occasion be unforeseen changes in the printing or delivery of a title. We will notify you of any changes in advance.
Can I use my discount (member, staff, offer) on subscriptions?
Unfortunately you are unable to use discounts on subscriptions. We may offer a special subscription discount from time to time.
What happens when my subscription runs out?
If your 6 month subscription expires and you would like to continue receiving your monthly titles, you will need to purchase a new subscription the following month. Please do not re-purchase until the next month to avoid receiving duplicates. For example, if your subscription finishes in September, please purchase your new subscription after the 1st October.
