Inspired by the 1980s TV series Manimal, award-winning cartoonist Anouk Ricard pairs her unique brand of absurd storytelling with impeccable comedic timing to deliver the riotously funny adventures of Animan, superhero pet detective.
A radioactive mosquito bite as a baby gives Francis the superpower to morph into any animal at will. Trained from an early age to keep his abilities secret, Francis becomes a pet therapist by day—the perfect cover for his secret identity as Animan.
Using his fantastical gift, Francis treats animal patients, goes undercover to solve murders, and battles his nemesis Objecto, a man capable of transforming into any and every possible object. In his downtime, Francis is also an avid watercolorist, happily painting landscapes and risqué portraits of his frog girlfriend, Fabienne.
Winner of the 2025 Grand Prix at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, veteran cartoonist Anouk Ricard delivers a wildly original take on the superhero genre, infused with her signature slapstick sensibility, preposterous scenarios, and off-the-wall punchlines.

Orders placed before 3pm will be ready to collect from noon the following day (including weekends). Please ensure you check our opening times before coming to collect.
Boston Spa
Orders placed before 3pm will be ready to collect between 2 - 4 working days, though this is usually quicker.
EU and Europe orders
Due to the new EU Regulation 2023/988 (GPSR), not all of our products will be available for you to order yet, we are working on rolling out a wider product range.

International orders are shipped on a Delivered at Place (DAP) basis.
Import duties and taxes such as Customs and Tariffs are payable by the customer upon delivery. These fees are the responsibility of the recipient and are not included in the purchase price or shipping cost. The British Library is not liable for these charges.
Orders returned due to non-payment of duties will be refunded for the product cost only, less any shipping fees incurred.
